31st MOLESEY VETERAN

HEAD OF THE RIVER RACE

FOR EIGHTS, FOURS & QUADS

SUNDAY 10th FEBRUARY 2008 at 2.00 PM

October 6, 2007

Club Captain/Veteran Organiser

This invitation is being written somewhat in advance, but it will look something like the text below. The important thing to note though is that the race will be on a SUNDAY to accommodate the unusual tides that have affected the Head of the River date.

We hope you will be entering this year's Veteran Head, which has been expanded a little to include quads and coxless fours, depending on stream conditions. As last year, you are invited to bring your Junior coxed quads with you, J14 J15 J16 boys and girls. Hampton and Lady Eleanor Holles schools are included in this - but we will accept the first 20 or so junior crews only.

This year’s race will be held under ARA rules for processional races over the two mile course from Sunbury Lock to Hampton Church, starting at 2.00 p.m.

The event will cater for all Veteran categories (men, women and mixed), and Juniors as stated above. Clubs may enter as many crews as they wish. We will also accept entries in the Veteran Novice category and in an invitation class of N.E.A.R. for those who have taken up rowing as adults in the last two years and not won an event. A hardwood shield carrying the MVH emblem and year will be awarded to the winning crew in each category. At least two crews must row in each category for a shield to be awarded, and we will be using the ARA handicap system based on the time of the winning crew to award shields, but the finish order will be established by actual time.

Entries should be made on the standard ARA form and sent to me at the address below, with a cheque payable to ‘Molesey Amateur Regatta’ for the entry fee (£TBA per seat. Entry forms must be received by no later than Monday 4th February. All Clubs entering will be sent a race order, a copy of the race and safety rules and trailer parking notes.

Please include a contact phone number on your entry form. In view of the winter river conditions, I suggest you contact me during the afternoon of the day before the race or check the announcement on the website (www.moleseyregatta.org).

Molesey Boat Club will be open after the race for hot showers, results, presentation of the shields, the bar, teas, sandwiches and cakes.

Molesey Regatta is on Saturday July 19th and 20th and will include veteran events: prizes this year will again be elegant glass tankards engraved with each event. The Committee hopes you will be able to participate on both occasions.
