A strong contingent of veterans enjoy rowing at Molesey. In crew terms there are about four eights, a couple of fours, some pairs and of course many single scullers. These crews tend to form and stay in loose groups and carry out their own training and organisation, even to the extent of owning their own equipment. Quite a good range of club equipment is available for veterans to use, with permission from the Captain.
As a result, there is some initial difficulty for new members joining as veterans to find a place. Perseverance and buying drinks however will pay off, and the normal way into a crew is to make oneself available as a substitute.
At the moment the Veteran Crews start off at Veteran C and we have some crews rowing at Veteran G going on H. Several crews row competitively and others recreationally. Each year rowing visits will be made to the USA and somewhere close like France, Belgium or the Netherlands. Some crews have been to Venice and Norway. Veterans in these numbers provide a substantial backing of experience for the Club, and many work hard in organising and coaching.
