Club Newsletter - June 2007

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Member

This letter is less of a newsletter and more administrative, hope you don’t mind, but these things need to be done sometime, and what better time than when the notice for the members’ Special General Meeting on July 12th is being sent out. The Special General Meeting or ‘SGM’ for short and its cousin the Annual General Meeting sound terribly anachronistic and little to do with rowing – but they are vital occasions when club members can alter or support the way the club is run and where it is going. So please don’t think the meeting has nothing to do with you.

Organisation – after much consideration the committee has decided to split and expand the way in which it is organized. In future, committee sub-groups will be:

Rowing
Planning
Elite Support
Fundraising
Secretary’s
Communications
Treasurer’s
Bar
Premises
Social

Best not to think of these as over formal, but more as aspects of the club which you can help by being part of. Each group will be led by a committee member but be composed of member volunteers with relevant skills and enthusiasm. A charter for each group has been prepared.

Committee – here’s how you can be on the committee via the election process at the SGM. The committee has five officers and up to twelve members. The notice shortly to go up on the downstairs noticeboard will list these 17 positions (and the President and the Vice-Presidents), and indicate which of the current holders are willing to stand again. All posts however need to be proposed and seconded, and there is nothing to stop new members being put forward. The notice will also show the sub-group categories and allow members to indicate an interest. There will be no block voting, instead a ballot paper listing all candidates (and briefly, their intentions) will be used. Questions may be asked of all candidates.

Well that’s the process, but it is absolutely vital that talented members share the running of the Club – and that we rely less on a ‘thin red line’ to keep it going. The club is aiming at excellence in every aspect – and needs you and your skills to get there !

Who are you ?

The Club needs to add new methods of communication. The new E-Letter for instance is reaching only a third of members, as we only have e-mail addresses going back over the last three years. Attached is a list of addresses held. Please check yours. If it is blank or incorrect, mail the correct one to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
