Tough Time in Lucerne

E-mail Print PDF

Firstly I must apologise for taking so long with this report – it is a week since we raced the final of the second World Cup in Lucerne. It is much easier writing about good results like the ones in Munich!

As you probably know we took a bronze medal in the eight, reversing the Munich result against the Australians but losing out to the Chinese and the impressive Canadians (who incidentally were the only reigning World Champions to win in Lucerne). If you had offered me, Acer and coach John West a bronze medal before we left for Lucerne we would have turned our noses up at it but a few days is a long time in sport! We did not perform well in the heat or the rep and it took some hard words and hard work (amongst other things) for us to turn it round for the final. But third place is not enough for us and once again we came away from a World Cup with a medal but a sense of disappointment.

The good news is that the disappointment of Lucerne has spurred us on as a group, adding a renewed focus to our training. Our focus this last week has been the next World Cup in Poznan where we will be looking to step on with the Olympics fast approaching.

With TJ and Hodge out injured and Monkey having to withdraw due to an injury to a crew mate the only other Molesey man in action was Oli Moore who won the C Final of the Pair with Tom Parker.

The next time Molesey will be in action for Great Britain will be at the Olympic Qualification Regatta in Poznan where Monkey will be looking to qualify the Quad. I know everyone from the Club will be willing Monkey on!
