Saturday afternoon saw 14 Molesey crews, from all levels of the club brave the tideway, for the 2008 Pairs Head of the River. Tom had obviously had a quiet word with someone, as the weather was surprising warm and sunny. (That guy can work miracles!)
Juniors, seniors and the little more senior, all congregated on the confines of Latymer schools boathouse, for many, the first race of the new season. Fitness levels were to be tested, after a months worth of training. 
The course was a shortened version, of the Head of the River, which would take us from the start at Chiswick Bridge, to the ARA HQ, which is located just before Hammersmith Bridge, a total distance of 4 km.
Conditions for the tideway were surprisingly good, with the only wash being caused by the umpires, who for no apparent reason would go steaming up and down the river shouting inaudible nonsense into a mega phone, and then, when they were required, would vanish from sight. (As you can probably tell I’m not their biggest fan.)
The day went well, with Molesey coming away with three pennant wins in, E2x with Asbo and Tideway guest Tim Male. Mo and Dan, who narrowly won by 0.4 seconds in S3 2x, and myself and Molesey newcomer Jon Moon fluking a win in S1 2- (ergos don’t float!). Although not winning their pennant, Ocky and ‘Fatty’ Foad put down the second fastest time of the day, coming second overall.
With the Fours Head in fours weeks time, lets see how many pennants Molesey can come away with. Come along and support the rowers on Saturday 8th November at 10:30 am.
