MBC Olympians: Latest from Beijing

E-mail Print PDF
Tom James and I are in the group A of races.  To split the racing and spread it out through the week, the whole program is split into two sections, which race every other day.  See attached pdf.  This gives us a bit of a plus as we finish racing the day before the Eight and some other boats, not only giving us a day to get ahead in the bar, but also a day to support the rest of the team!

Off to Beijing

We’re leaving in 2 hours from the hotel and this pretty much marks the beginning of the end of the last four years!  Our physiology is now sealed in the effectiveness of the training over the last few years.  We have our rhythm that we hope will make the journey too, but 90% of that is done, with just the last bit of ‘tweaking’ to do.  And finally four years of preparation and my mind is a little like... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! HOLY COW THE OLYMPICS ARE HERE!  Only joking, I know we have another year to go!  But I’m sure it’s going to go quickly, I recon it’s going to feel more like 10 days.  This is kind of lucky, there are still a few things to work on and this year is going to really help to get it right!

A Giant Season

E-mail Print PDF

What a fantastic day to finish our first season with.  The last few months have been a rollercoaster of hard work, racing and training.  There have been high points and very low points but on Saturday, 19 July, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.  The Molesey Amateur Regatta was an enormous success and if you were rowing for Molesey Boat Club then it was doubtless more successful.  Every few minutes on the tannoy there was another announcement exclaiming yet another Molesey win.

Thames Cup A (Who was in it when the music stopped)

E-mail Print PDF

As you probably gathered from Ben's report, preparations for the Molesey Henley crews was not quite straightforward and the Thames Cup A was no exception.

Having lost Ben to the coxed four, due to Georges ‘bridge accident’ (a week before Marlow), we thought that would be the last crew change until Henley. How wrong we were. Just two days later we were hit with the news that Dan had been diagnosed with shingles and was not going to be able to race at Marlow and would be unlikely to join us for Henley.

It's Not About the Points...

At Molesey Regatta, the Men’s Novice 8 entered the event having had just one late evening outing. It was the second time this composite crew (with the exception of stroke man Josh) had raced and was made up of the Novice 4 (Tony Gilbert, Nick Hallwood, Mike Trotman and Jonathan Cotterill) and half of the squad 8 which qualified for the Thames Challenge Cup at Henley this year (Josh Kerman, Tom Westcott, Neil Wands, Lee Turner and cox Bruno Hallwood).

With the whole crew doubling up for other events, this was to be hard day’s racing, not to mention a logistical nightmare!
